Summary: A sermon on how we can daily betray Jesus.
BETRAYAL
Mark 14:10-11
INTRO: Satan will make it easy and convenient to betray Jesus. Just as Judas betrayed Jesus 2,000 years ago, we also betray Him daily. Today, we want to see some of the ways we betray Him.
I. IT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH LOVE OF EASE.
A. "Coulds’t thou not watch one hour?" (v. 37).
1. We are all too busy in today’s world to spend one hour with
God.
2. We love our rest too much to work for even "one hour."
3. The flesh is weak (v. 38).
B. There is no retirement in God’s Army.
II. IT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH FEAR.
A. But he denied, saying "I know not" (v. 68).
B. When called upon to witness for Jesus, Peter’s fear of man over
came his responsibility to Jesus.
C. Peter "spoke the language," but still tried to hide his
identity (v. 70).
D. Why do we fear witnessing? Is it because we are inconsistent
in our lives?
III. IT IS POSSIBLE TO BETRAY THROUGH WRONG AS SOCIATIONS.
A. "When she saw Peter warming himself" (v. 67).
B. We need to be careful at whose fire we warm ourselves.
C. One good apple in a box of bad will not change the bad apples,
but one bad apple in a box of good will spoil the others.
IV. IT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH DESERTION.
A. And they forsook Him and fled (v. 50).
B. How many of us have run out on Jesus. He has given us a task
to do and we went the opposite way like Jonah.
C. When Jesus needed them most, they failed Him. Not to fight for
Him, but to support Him in His hour of need.
V. IT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH DECEPTION.
A. Judas kissed Him (v. 45).
B. Small wonder that Jesus has such harsh words to speak about
hypocrites.
1. Play actors.
2. Kittle says - Failure to do God’s will is concealed behind the
pious appearance of outward conduct.
C. Not everyone that saith Lord, Lord.
