Summary: A sermon of encouragement

LET US NOT BE WEARY IN WELL DOING

1 Corinthians 15:58 - Therefore, my brothers and sister, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Galatians 6:9 - And let us not be weary in WELL DOING: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

NOT WELL KNOWING, NOT WELL PROMISING, NOT WELL PROFESSING,

BUT WELL DOING.

DOING WITH THE RIGHT MOTIVE: MUST BE DONE IN LOVE

1 Cor. 13: 1-3 & 13 - Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

MUST BE DONE FOR GOD’S GLORY

1 Cor. 10:31 - Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the Glory of God. Everything must be done for God’s Glory. Not self glory.

Working for self means to be seen of men or praised by man. Working for God means He gets all the honor and glory. Mt 6:1 - When you do good deeds before men, to be seen of them, you have no rewards in heaven.

DOING WITH THE RIGHT MANNER: MUST BE DONE FAITHULLY

1 Cor. 4:2 - Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Matthew 25: 21-23 - Well done, Good and Faithful Servant.

WELL DOING WILL GET A WELL DONE!

He who does not do well always, at all times, under all circumstances, does not do well at all. It is not enough to start well, you must finish well. It is not how you start, it is how you finish. No work is well done, that is half done. Shooting stars attract attention but burn out before they hit the ground. A fixed star shines on at all times.

MUST BE DONE WILLINGLY

1 Cor. 9:17 - For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward.

I read a story about young man attending Bible College in Lakeland Fl.

He worked at a local hospital in the ICU dept. He worked on the Cardiac arrest team. One of the requirements to save a life was to give the patient mouth to mouth resuscitation while another push the patients chest. The young man did not want to do that. One day an elderly man with no teeth, tobacco running down his jaw came in… The head doctor said to the young man, if you don’t help this man you will lose your job. He did what he had to do. Now suppose one day in heaven, when the Lord is asking him what sacrifices he made on earth? And immediately he declares, How about that Old man? Jesus replies, You did not do it willingly, You did it to keep from loosing your job. Our work must be done willingly for Jesus. We should not have to be begged to work for God.

DOING WITH THE RIGHT EXAMPLE - JESUS

1 Cor. 11:1 - Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

People say well I am as good as that Pastor, or Leader… I am doing as good as oh so and so… But our example is Jesus. How are you doing when compared to Jesus?

FOR IN DUE SEASON WE SHALL REAP IF WE FAINT NOT OR DON’T QUIT

Hitler was mounting his attack against England during World War II,

Winston Churchill was asked to speak to a group of discouraged soldiers. He spoke an eight-word encouragement: “Never give up! Never, never, never give up! There will be times when you’ll be discouraged in your Christian walk, but you must Never give up, never, never, never give up. (POEM : DON’T QUIT)

Proverbs 24:16 - A righteous man shall fall seven times but He will get back up.

It is not saying that a righteous man does not fall. It is saying when a righteous man falls He gets back up.
