Summary: Remember Paul is telling Timothy, this is the way church going people are going to act!!

2-For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (KJV)

2-For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (NKJV)

2-For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. (NLT)

2-For people will love only themselves and there money. They will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them and thoroughly bad, they will be hard headed and never give in to others. (The Living Bible)

Boasters-Overemphasize possessions or accomplishments

Churches can do this, become so boastful, of their attendance, how many people they have on the church roll, what their budget is, how much they have in their checking account, even how much they give to missions.

Now don’t get me wrong, those are some thing to boast about, but boasting about that God provide the recourses, to accomplish all of those things!!!

(Fruit baskets, love offering)

I am not boasting about what we did, I an boasting about what God is doing thru us!!!!

Proud-Pleased and satisfied

If church members are not careful, they can become so pleased and satisfied with themselves, with their accomplishment for the Lord, that they become lax in their devotion for the Lord!!

They can become content with their relationship with the Lord

(I’m not as good as I should be, but I’m better than I was!)

(Well, at least I’m not as bad as ole so and so!)

Would you want your doctor to have that kind of attitude?

(Well, I’m not as good as doctor as I could be, but at least I’m better than I was!)

No, I want him or her to be up on the latest technology, the latest treatments, latest medicines.

I don’t want to here him or her say, “Well, I’m not the best doctor, but at least I’m better than doctor so and so!”

I want my doctor to be the best they can be!!

I don’t want them just to settle!!

So, if we want that in others, should we not desire that for ourselves!!

I don’t want settle with my past accomplishment, I don’t want settle for how my relationship with Lord has been, I want it to be better!

How about you??

Blasphemers-To treat God or sacred things disrespectfully through words or action

Now, remember Paul is telling Timothy, this is the way church going people are going to act!!

Think of it this way, it’s one thing for the world to be disrespectful of you, but it’s whole different thing when your love ones are disrespectful toward you!!

How do we treat God?

How do we treat the things of God?

Do we just go thru the motions?

Disobedient To Parents-Refusing to obey

Every translation that I read, have different words for most of the characteristic that Paul list, but they all agree on this one…Disobedient to parents…no other description fits it!!!

He is not just talking about children acting this way, he is talking about grown adults acting this way!!

Let me ask you question? Are you bring honor to your mother and father?

Are you bring honor to your parents, with the way you act, the way you talk (You kiss your mother with that mouth)?

Are you treating them with respect?

Are you obeying the teachings and the guidelines your parents taught you as a child?

Unthankful-One of the common denominator in so many people, doesn’t matter what church, big or small, or what denomination it is, we all to often become unthankful, for the things God has best us with!!

Unholy-We have to understand what the definition of the word Holy is!

Holy-Dedicated or set apart for religious purposes

Is that a description of your life?

1 Cor. 6:19-20-Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your £body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
