Jesus, who had all authority, chose to serve rather than be served. We are called to follow His example and serve others, both in sharing the Gospel and in nurturing fellow believers.

Youth Sermon: Attitude

Life's Like a Game of Tennis

Hey guys! You know how in a game of tennis, the player who serves well usually wins? Well, life's kinda like that too. But how many of us are really up for living a life of service?

There's this book, The Ugly American, where a journalist from Burma talks about how Americans can sometimes act all high and mighty when they go to other countries. But then there's this guy, Bob Maile, an American diplomat in Asia, who was different. He was all about making friends with the locals and learning from them.

But how many of us are really up for living a life of service?

The Ultimate Example of Service - Jesus

Now, let's talk about the ultimate example of service - Jesus. Even though He had all the power, He chose to serve others. Remember the story when He washed His disciples' feet? That was Him showing us how to be humble and loving. He even said, "The greatest among you will be your servant."

Jesus showed us three ways to serve. First, as a doulos, He bound Himself to us, becoming human and sacrificing Himself for us. Second, as a diakonos, He took care of others' needs, feeding them and healing them. Third, as a huperetes, He humbled Himself and obediently went to the cross. We're called to be like Him in all these ways.

Bringing It Home

Now, let's bring this home. Imagine you're at school and you see someone struggling with their books. What if you stopped to help them? That's being a diakonos. Or what about when your little brother or sister is annoying you, but you choose to be patient and kind? That's being a doulos. And when you stand up for what's right, even when it's hard? That's being a huperetes.

So, let's be like Jesus and serve others. Not just in big, flashy ways, but in the small, everyday things too. Because that's where real change happens.

Prayer

Let's pray: Lord, help us to follow Jesus' example and serve others. Give us the strength to be humble, to care for others, and to stand up for what's right. Help us to make a difference in our world, one act of service at a time. Amen.
