1 Kings 3:1-15

A preacher’s little boy inquired, "Daddy, I notice every Sunday morning when

you first come out to preach, you sit up on the platform and bow your head.

What are you doing?"

The father explained, "I’m asking the Lord to give me a good sermon."

The little boy said, "Why don’t he?"

Just a little humor there!

King Solomon - Living for God....Verse 3. Given a choice....Verse 5 Chooses wisdom....Verses 7-10

I got to thinking about the business meeting and the decisions that need to be made.

We had better be asking God for His wisdom in the business of the Church. Amen.

But we got to realize is, the business meeting is one day, the second Sunday in May, once a year.

I believe God would have us be wise, not just one day a year, but everyday of the year. Amen.

James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

I. WHAT IS WISDOM

Wisdom - ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Basically the same Scripture just worded differently Job 28:28 Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

You see, in order to be holy is to depart from evil. Amen

Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

Wisdom will get a man to get himself right with God. Amen

Not only will a man get himself right but he will be concerned about others as well.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

I want to ask the question, this morning, How bad do you desire the wisdom of God?

II. The Scripture tells us of TWO KINDS OF WISDOM

First - the wisdom of this world

James 3:13-16 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

You see, we must keep our Spiritual eyes open because the devil himself is spreading deception all around us.

Proverbs 14:12; 16:25 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.

There is the wisdom of this world and then there is the wisdom that comes not from this world. The wisdom from God above.

Back to James 3:17-18 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Again I ask a question Which of these do you choose to embrace? The wisdom of this world or the wisdom from God?

Someone may ask How does a person receive Godly wisdom?

III. PRAYING FOR GODLY WISDOM or Asking for….

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Proverbs 2:1-6 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Matt. 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God,

Been preaching mostly to the Church today….

But maybe you are here today and you are not saved.
