Summary: CONSULT THE LORD BEFORE YOU PLAN.
ASK FIRST
OBSERVATION: JOSHUA WAS THE LEADER OF ISRAEL’S CONQUEST OF CANAAN. HE CONTINUALLY URGED ISRAEL TO FULLY FOLLOW THE LORD’S DIRECTIVES. GOD HAD CONFIDENCE IN JOSHUA’S LEADERSHIP; HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT MEAN JOSHUA WAS PERFECT IN HIS LEADERSHIP. THIS STUDY ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE.
INTERPRETATION: READ JOSHUA 9: 14-15
POINTS TO PONDER:
JOSHUA WAS REMINDED HE WAS SECOND IN COMMAND. EVERY FATHER, MOTHER, PASTOR, CHURCH MEMBER OR FRIEND IS SECOND IN COMMAND TO THE LORD. A BELIEVER SHOULD NEVER FORGET THIS REALITY. READ JOHN 15:5.
JOSHUA FAILED TO CONSULT THE LORD FIRST BEFORE HE ENGAGED COVENANT WITH THE PAGAN GIBEONITES. HAD HE ACKNOWLEDGED GOD FIRST HIS LEADERSHIP WOULD NOT BE QUESTIONED.
GOD INSTRUCTED HIM TO DESTROY THE GIBEONITES’ CITIES (DEUT. 7:1-2). JOSHUA INSTEAD STRUCK A COVENANT WITH HIS ENEMIES (DEUT. 11:19).
BELIEVERS SHOULD CONTEMPLATE CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING A LIFE DECISION.
APPLICATION: PROVERBS 3:6 (THE BOOK) SEEK HIS WILL IN ALL YOU DO, AND HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATHS.
