Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
We have worth and value because of Christ and the unconditional love of God the Father. Once we understand this amazing truth, we are able to live for others, just as Jesus did.
Today we're going to talk about how much you're worth. And I'm not talking about how much money you have, how many followers you have on Instagram, or how many A's you get on your report card. I'm talking about your worth in the eyes of God.
Let's start with a little object lesson. I want you to imagine a $100 bill. Now, what if I crumpled it up, stepped on it, and got it all dirty? Would you still want it? Of course, you would! It's still worth $100, right?
That's how God sees us. No matter what we've done, no matter how many mistakes we've made, we're still valuable to Him. In fact, we're so valuable that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us.
Check out this verse from the Bible, John 3:16: 'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.'
That's some serious love, right? And it doesn't change, no matter what we do.
'Though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not.' - C.S. Lewis
No matter what we've done, no matter how many mistakes we've made, we're still valuable to Him.
But here's the thing - knowing that God loves us and values us isn't just about feeling good about ourselves. It's also about how we live our lives.
In Matthew 10:24-39, Jesus talks about what it means to be worthy of Him. He says that we need to love Him more than anything else, even our own families. And He says that we need to take up our cross and follow Him.
That might sound a little scary, but it's really about putting God first in our lives and living in a way that shows His love to others.
Think about it this way - if you knew someone who was willing to die for you, wouldn't you want to live in a way that honors their sacrifice? That's what Jesus did for us. He paid the ultimate price for our sins so that we could have eternal life.
So, what does this mean for us in our everyday lives? It means that we need to live in a way that shows God's love to others. It means that we need to be kind, forgiving, and compassionate, even when it's hard. It means that we need to share the good news of Jesus with others.
And yes, it might be tough sometimes. Following Jesus isn't always easy. But it's always worth it.
That's what Jesus did for us. He paid the ultimate price for our sins so that we could have eternal life.
1. Have you ever felt worthless? How does knowing your worth in Christ change that feeling?
2. What does it mean to you to carry your cross and follow Jesus?
3. How can you show unconditional love to someone this week?
4. What does the cost of redemption mean to you?
5. How can you live a life worthy of Jesus' sacrifice?
