This sermon explores our roles as believers in carrying the weight of faith, serving as vessels for God's work, and proclaiming His blessings.
Good morning, dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome to this blessed day that the Lord has made. We gather here today, not by coincidence, not by chance, but by divine appointment. We are here to open our hearts to the Word of God and to listen to the message He has for us today. Our text for today's sermon comes from the Gospel of Mark, chapter 11, verses 1 to 11. Allow me to read it to you.
In the spirit of understanding this passage, let us remember the words of the great preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "Visit many good books, but live in the Bible." Today, we are not just visiting, but living in the Bible, seeking to understand the depth of its wisdom and the breadth of its love.
Today, we will be focusing on three main points from this passage: Bearing the Burden of Belief, Becoming a Bearer for the King, and Broadcasting the Blessings of Hosanna. As we delve into these points, may our hearts be open, our minds receptive, and our spirits attuned to the voice of God.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We invite Your Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek to understand Your Word today. Open our hearts, Lord, to receive Your Word with gladness. Help us to not merely be hearers of Your Word, but doers also. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
In the passage we read, we see Jesus sending His disciples on a mission. He gives them specific instructions and they follow His directions without questioning. This is a clear demonstration of their belief in Him. They trusted His words and were willing to take action based on His instructions. This is a crucial aspect of our faith journey. Belief is not just about acknowledging God's existence or accepting certain doctrines. It's about putting our trust in Jesus and being willing to act on His word.
This kind of belief often comes with a burden. It's not always easy to trust God, especially when His instructions don't make sense to us. The disciples could have questioned Jesus. They could have asked why He needed a colt or why they had to go to a specific village to find it. But they didn't. They simply trusted Him and obeyed His instructions. This is the kind of belief that we are called to have. A belief that is willing to bear the burden of trust and obedience, even when it's difficult.
The disciples' obedience also demonstrates another important aspect of belief - the willingness to serve. They were not just passive observers of Jesus' ministry. They were active participants. This is a reminder for us that belief is not just about what we think or feel. It's about what we do. It's about being willing to serve God and others, even when it's inconvenient or uncomfortable.
Another aspect of belief that we see in this passage is the willingness to face opposition. When the disciples went to untie the colt, some people questioned them. They could have been afraid or intimidated. They could have backed down. But they didn't. They stood their ground and answered confidently, "The Lord needs it." This shows us that belief is not just about enjoying the blessings of God. It's also about being willing to stand up for Him, even when we face opposition or criticism.
Finally, we see in this passage that belief is about recognizing Jesus as our King. When the disciples brought the colt to Jesus, they didn't just give it to Him. They laid their cloaks on it, creating a makeshift saddle. This was a sign of respect and honor. It was their way of acknowledging Jesus as their King. This is a crucial aspect of belief. It's not just about acknowledging Jesus as a good teacher or a great prophet. It's about acknowledging Him as our King, the one who has the right to rule over our lives.
