This sermon encourages recognition of our need for God, gratitude for His blessings, and recommitment to His plans, through repentance and faith.

Introduction

Beloved friends, gathered here today in the house of the Lord, I want to welcome you with open arms and a heart full of gratitude. We are here not by chance, but by divine appointment. We are here not as strangers, but as a family, united in Christ's love.

Today, we are going to immerse ourselves in the deep, refreshing waters of God's Word, as we turn to the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 30, verse 2. Let me read it for you: "When you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today."

This passage is a beacon of hope, a call to repentance and a reminder of the boundless grace that awaits us when we return wholeheartedly to the Lord. In the words of the esteemed preacher Charles Spurgeon, "Do not make any mistake about it; repentance is not a thing of days and weeks, a temporary penance to be got over as fast as possible! No; it is the grace of a lifetime, like faith itself. God's little children repent, and so do the young men and the fathers. Repentance is the inseparable companion of faith." These words ring true today as we look at three key points from our Scripture passage: Recognizing our Lost State, Remembering God's Blessings, and Recommitting to the Lord's Plans.

But before we embark on our study, let's bow our heads in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for bringing us together today. We thank You for Your Word, which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we reflect on Your Word today, we ask that You open our hearts and minds to receive Your truth. Help us to recognize our lost state, remember Your blessings, and recommit to Your plans. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

Transition. So, let's begin, dear friends. Let's open our hearts and minds to the wisdom of God's Word. Let's allow the Holy Spirit to guide us as we delve deeper into the richness of these truths. May we be enlightened, encouraged, and empowered by the Word of God today.

Recognizing our Lost State

In the vast expanse of life, we often find ourselves wandering, sometimes aimlessly, sometimes with purpose. We may not always realize it, but we are in a state of being lost. This isn't about being physically lost, like when we can't find our way home. No, this is a spiritual state of being lost, a state of being separated from God.

This separation isn't because God has moved away from us. No, it's because we have moved away from Him. We have allowed the distractions of the world, the temptations of the flesh, and the lies of the enemy to pull us away from our Creator, our Father, our Shepherd.

But how do we realize that we are lost? How do we come to this recognition? It starts with acknowledging our sins. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We have all missed the mark. We have all strayed from the path of righteousness.

Acknowledging our sins is not about beating ourselves up or wallowing in guilt. It's about being honest with ourselves and with God. It's about admitting that we have done wrong, that we have made mistakes, that we have fallen short. We should be coming clean with God, confessing our sins, and asking for His forgiveness.

But, we also need to feel the weight of our sins. We need to understand the consequences of our actions. We need to realize that our sins have separated us from God, that they have created a chasm between us and Him.

Feeling the weight of our sins is not about living in constant guilt or shame. It's about understanding the gravity of our actions. It's about realizing the impact of our sins on our relationship with God. But feeling the weight of our sins is not enough. We also need to desire change. We need to want to turn away from our sins.

Desiring change is really about having a genuine desire to do better, to be better. It's about wanting to live a life that is pleasing to God, a life that is in line with His will and His ways. It's about wanting to close the chasm between us and God, to restore our relationship with Him. We also need to take action. We need to turn away from our sins. We need to return to God.

Taking action is not about doing things in our own strength or in our own way. It's about relying on God's strength and following His lead. It's about seeking His guidance and trusting His direction. In the end, recognizing our lost state is about acknowledging our sins, feeling the weight of our sins, desiring change, and taking action. It's about realizing that we are lost without God, that we need Him, that we can't make it on our own. It's about returning to our Creator, our Father, our Shepherd, with a humble and contrite heart.

Transition. So, let's acknowledge our sins. Let's feel the weight of our sins. Let's desire change. Let's take action. Let's recognize our lost state and return to God. Let's seek His forgiveness, His guidance, and His strength. Let's walk in His ways and live for His glory. Let's be found in Him.
