Summary: Part 8 of the colossians series

ARE YOU LIVING OUT YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE?

COL 3:1-11

I. Seek spiritual living

A. Set your mind on heavenly things.

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in the place of honor and power. Col 3:1

B. Don’t dwell on earthly things.

Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.Col 1:2,3

C. Reveal your life with Christ to the world.

And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Col. 3:4 (NLT)

II. Put away sin.

A. Put away lust of the flesh

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual sin, impurity, lust, and shameful desires. Col 1:5a

B. Put away the pride of life.

Don’t be greedy for the good things of this life, for that is idolatry. 6God’s terrible anger will come upon those who do such things.7You used to do them when your life was still part of this world. Col. 3:5b-7 (NLT)

C. Put away anger.

But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Col 3:8

D. Put away wickedness.

Don‘t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old evil nature and all its wicked deeds. Col. 3:9 (NLT)

III. Strengthen the Christ like in you.

A. Put on the new man.

In its place you have clothed yourselves with a brand-new nature that is continually being renewed as you learn more and more about Christ, who created this new nature within you. Col. 3:10 (NLT)

B. Make Christ the main focus.

In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters and he lives in all of us. Col. 3:11 (NLT)

A. Walk in the Spirit.

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Gal. 5:16 -18 (NKJV)
