Summary: What are you hunger and thirst for? (Hix)

Matthew 5:6-Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine (Wine is what we drink at the Lord’s supper to represent His blood)

Jesus’ first temptation is hunger, which the devil tells Him to turn the stones into bread. (Bread is what we eat at the Lord’s supper to represent His body)

One of the things that Jesus established the church to continually do was partake of the Lord’s supper.

Mankind had a thirst and hunger that the could not quench on their own, but Jesus was able to do upon the cross!

Hungering and thirsting is a good illustration of what happens to each individual!

We hunger and thirst not only for food but for satisfaction in life.

People are always searching for all kinds of different ways (Sex, drugs, alcohol, fame) to be filled, to be satisfied, but we always end up falling short, we always end up still wanting, still needing something to fill the void in our life!!

Righteousness is to the spiritual body, what water and food is to the physical body!

Just like the physical body needs food and water, the spiritual body needs righteousness!

That is why everybody makes for themselves something to worship!!

It might be cars, sports, hobby, money, job, a person or persons, but they revolve their whole world around those things, they are worshipping those things, because they are trying to fill that void!!

Isaiah 55:1-2-“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,

Come to the waters;

And you who have no money,

Come, buy and eat.

Yes, come, buy wine and milk

Without money and without price.

2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread,

And your wages for what does not satisfy?

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,

And let your soul delight itself in abundance.

He issues the call, “Are you thirsty? Come and drink!”

Do you desire satisfaction? Come and Drink!

Are you burdened by the bad things you’ve done? Come and Drink!

Are you weighed down by the struggles of life? Come and Drink!

People are trying to fill that void in their life, that only God can fill, and the sad part is when they get to the end of their life, they will see how meaningless and senseless their life has been!!

C.S. Lewis-We are half hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition, when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea, we are far too easily pleased.

Psalm 42:1-2-As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

We should be hungering and thirsting after God!

But I am afraid we are playing with our food, we are not really eating it!

We handle God’s word as if it is fast food, we grab a snack here and snack there (Hit and miss going to church, praying, studing our bible) as we are on the fast lane, the fast track of life and then, we wonder why we are so miserable?

Psalms 37:25- I have been young, and now am old;

Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,

Nor his descendants begging bread.

God wants to give food that satisfies, water that quenches our thirst, joy that is everlasting, and peace that the world cannot take away, but we have to accept it on His terms, and do it His way!!

Fill My Cup Lord

Like the woman at the well I was seeking

For things that could not satisfy,

And then I heard my Savior speaking

Draw from my well that never shall run dry

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul

Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more

Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole

There are millions in this world

who are craving The pleasures earthly things afford

But none can match the wondrous treasure

That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul

Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more

Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole

Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord

Come and quench this thirsting of my soul

Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more

Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole
