Encourages Christians to joyfully obey and support their spiritual leaders, recognizing their responsibility and aiding in the mission of Christ.

Introduction

Greetings, beloved family in Christ. Today, we gather under the sheltering wings of His grace, bound by a shared love for our Lord and united in our quest for understanding His divine Word. Our hearts are open, our spirits eager, and our minds ready to receive the nourishment that only the Bread of Life can provide.

Our focus today is on the profound passage from Hebrews 13:17,

"Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you."

In these words, we find a call to honor, heed, and help; a call that echoes the very heartbeat of Christ Himself.

In the words of Dillon Burroughs, "The church is not a campus but a community. Pastors are not CEOs; they are shepherds." This, dear brothers and sisters, is the essence of our message today.

We stand at the threshold of a deeper understanding of our duty to our leaders, our pastors, our shepherds. We are beckoned to not merely obey and submit, but to do so in a spirit of joy and gratitude. We are encouraged to recognize the weight of responsibility they bear, and to lighten their burden by our willing cooperation and active participation in the mission of Christ.

Honoring the Shepherd's Sacrifice

As we gather here today, we find ourselves standing on the precipice of a profound understanding. We stand shoulder to shoulder, united in our love for Christ and our desire to understand His Word. We are here to discover, to learn, and to grow. We are here to deepen our faith and strengthen our bond with our Heavenly Father.

Faced with a challenge: A challenge to not only obey and submit to our leaders, but to do so with joy and gratitude. A challenge to recognize the weight of responsibility they bear, and to lighten their burden through our willing cooperation and active participation in the mission of Christ.

A call to obey our leaders: This is not a call to blind obedience, but rather, a call to thoughtful, intentional obedience. It's a call to recognize the authority of our leaders, to respect their position, and to follow their guidance. It's a call to trust in their wisdom, their experience, and their dedication to the mission of Christ.

Submit to our leaders: This is not a call to surrender our will, but rather, a call to align our will with the will of our leaders. It's a call to put aside our own desires, our own ambitions, and our own plans, and instead, to embrace the plans, the vision, and the mission of our leaders. It's a call to become partners in the mission of Christ, working together to advance His Kingdom.

Our leaders are keeping watch over our souls: This is not a mere duty, but a sacred responsibility. It's a reminder that our leaders are not just leaders, but shepherds, tasked with the care and protection of their flock. It's a reminder that they are accountable to God for the way they lead, the way they guide, and the way they care for their flock.

Let our leaders lead with joy, not with groaning: This is not a call to make our leaders happy, but rather, a call to make their task a joy, not a burden. It's a call to support our leaders, to encourage them, and to pray for them. It's a call to be a source of joy, not a source of stress, for our leaders.

More than about us and our leaders: It's about Christ and His mission. It's about honoring His sacrifice, heeding His guidance, and helping His mission. It's about living out our faith in every thought, word, and deed. It's about becoming not just hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word.
