ANTICIPATING CHRISTMAS LUKE 2:22-35 I. SIMEON’S LIVING WAS COMMENDABLE. (Vs. 25) A. Simeon Was A Righteous Man.v.25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, Just means right.(that is by grace through faith) B. Simeon Was A Receptive Man. His very name meant “hearing.” Simeon was that kind of man. He was receptive to the Word of God. He heard it with his ears, and he applied it in his heart ! C. Simeon Was A Reputable Man. The phrase “a man in Jerusalem” indicates a place of position. D. Simeon Was A Religious Man. “Devout “ means he was carefully religious or pious about the things of God. E. Simeon Was A Rich Man, in Spiritual things. “the Holy Ghost was upon him“ II. SIMEON’S LONGING WAS COMFORTING. (Vs. 25) waiting for the consolation of Israel: the thief meet my wife.” “Why”, she’s been expecting you for 20 years.” A. Simeon Did Not Long For Riches. B. Simeon Did Not Long For Recognition. C. Simeon Did Not Long For Rewards. D. Simeon Did Long For Redemption. III. SIMEON’S LEAVING WAS CONDITIONAL. (Vs. 26) And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. A.. Simeon’s Time Was Expiring. B.
