Anointed But Weak
Contributed by Bala Samson on Mar 13, 2024 (message contributor)
Summary: When the enemy menacingly comes towards us, when the trouble of the world encroach on us, we fail to remember how God protected us in the past and how He can do it again.
Anointed but weak
2 Samuel 3:39"I am weak today, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too difficult for me. May the LORD repay the evildoer according to his evil."
Have you ever felt anointed and weak? How could someone anointed feel weak?? I felt that way today! If I write without integrity then God would not anoint my writing. I would like to expose my weakness first and then tell you’ll my source of anointing.
I work among people from downtrodden society: drunkards, gamblers and daily labourers, day in and day out I have to move with them because their children study in our Abide School, free school for the underprivileged in Hyderabad. The father of two boys studying with us from nursery ( were benefited from our School for several years) behaved very badly this morning at the school gate, another father came drunk and series of other things this week made me feel absolutely miserable. They are manipulative, cunning, selfish, liars, quarrelsome and rebellious; honestly, I wondered how am I going to handle this whole thing? Anointed but weak!
David was just anointed king of Judah after several years of being chased by enemies and Saul, after years of loneliness, pain and rejection. It should have been great time of jubilation and celebration; however, what followed next was horrible that shattered David. Joab killed Abner (the commander of Saul’s army)! Without King David’s permission, Joab tracked down Abner and murdered him (2 Samuel 3:26–27). This was personal revenge, Joab had been seeking to avenge his brother Asahel’s death at the hands of Abner (2 Samuel 2:19–23).
This was great injustice done to David, Joab was none other than the son of Zeruiah, a sister of king David (1 Chronicles 2:15–16). We can see here confusion inside the royal family and clearly David was shaken. Life is like a roller coaster ride – ups and downs, we need to be equipped to face both! David said” these men the sons of Zeruiah are too difficult for me” David did not even mention the name of Joab here…such was his frustration; however, I saw something in the words of David – FEAR! Anybody listening to me? Have you ever lost sight of God in your life? Have you ever felt 'everybody is against me'? David did here!
When the enemy menacingly comes towards us, when the trouble of the world encroach on us, we fail to remember how God protected us in the past and how He can do it again and most important ‘the battle belongs to Him in the first place’. Clap hands for God! The Lord spoke to me through the above verse, encouraged me and at the same time rebuked me to trust Him at all times.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, Help us to always remember your promises and the good deeds done for us in the past. May we always rely on you and not on our own understanding. Remove all fears. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
