Summary: HOW DOES CHRIST VIEW YOUR DEVOTION?
ANNA, A MODEL OF DEVOTION
INTRODUCTION:
THE SCRIPTURE RECORDS TWO JEWISH PEOPLE WHO RECOGNIZED THE CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL EIGHT DAYS AFTER CHRIST’S BIRTH. THE FIRST WAS SIMEON. THE SECOND WAS ANNA (MEANING GRACE) A PROPHETESS FROM THE TRIBE OF ASHER. THE TERM CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL CONVEYS THE REALITY OF REDEMPTION OF ISRAEL. IT ALSO APPLIES TO GENTILES (NON-JEWS).
INSIGHT:
READ LUKE 2: 36-38 (NASB)
THE PARENTS PRESENTED THE CHRIST CHILD ON THE EIGHTH DAY AFTER BIRTH ACCORDING TO JEWISH LAW. AN AGED PROPHETESS OF GOD, ANNA CONFIRMED WHAT SIMEON EXPERIENCED EARLIER WHICH VALIDATED THE REALITY OF THE EVENT.
PSALMS 5:3 “IN THE MORNING, O LORD, YOU WILL HEAR MY VOICE. IN THE MORNING I WILL ORDER MY PRAYER TO YOU AND EAGERLY WATCH.” (NASB)
PSALMS 119:147 “I RISE BEFORE DAWN AND CRY FOR HELP; I WAIT FOR YOUR WORDS.”
2 THESSALONIANS 2:16-17 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE) “NOW MAY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF, AND GOD OUR FATHER, WHO LOVED US AND GAVE US EVERLASTING CONSOLATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT AND WELL-FOUNDED HOPE THROUGH (HIS) GRACE (UNMERITED FAVOR) COMFORT AND ENCOURAGE YOUR HEARTS AND STRENGTHEN THEM-MAKE THEM STEADFAST AND KEEP THEM UNSWERVING-IN EVERY GOOD WORK AND WORD.”
APPLICATION: ANNA A MODEL OF DEVOTION. CHRIST WILL RETURN A SECOND TIME. QUESTION: HOW WILL HE ASSESS YOUR DEVOTION TO HIM?
