Supernatural Pt4- Angels

Fourth week- study called- Supernatural.

First week-

-recognized- we live in a physical world, but

-there is an equally real spiritual world

-where there is a spiritual battle taking place.

We learned-

-we are engaged in a battle

-not against flesh/blood, but

-against powers/principalities of- spiritual world

Second week-

-looked at the reality of the HS

-who He is, what role does He play in our lives

Last week-

-looked at Satan and his demons

-the reality of dark spiritual forces

-whose goal is to steal, kill, and destroy

This week-

-look at angels and

-understand what part they play in our lives.

Where do we get-understanding of angels? TV/movies

TV show- Touched by an Angel

-angels are women w/British accents

Movie- Angels in the Outfield or Michael

-John Travolta is a beer drinking angel

Movie- It’s a Wonderful Life- angel- Clarence

-every time-bell rings-angel gets- wings

Who are Angels?

Angels are God’s servants- supernatural beings created by God and for God’s glory-

-they do the exact bidding of God.

Angels can be so-

-fierce- can kill thousands at one time, and yet

-gentle- that the can protect a single child

There are likely angels all around us at this moment.

And at times- angels can show up looking like people.

Gen 18 Abraham encounters angels- tell the story-

Gen 19 Lot in Sodom- tell the story-

Heb 13:1-2

Who or what exactly are angels? Angles are:

1. Angels are worshippers

Heb 1:6 And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, “And let all the angels of God worship Him .”

Wherever you find God- find angels worshipping Him.

Rev 5:11-13

Angels are worshippers.

2. Angles are warriors

They are fierce warriors battling on God’s behalf.

Dan 10 Michael doing battle w/Prince of Persia

1 Chr 21 David saw a mighty angel- tell the story

2 Ki 19:35 Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, behold, all of them were dead.

Angels are warriors created by God and for God.

3. Angels are messengers

Bible- angels bring messages from God to His people.

Jud 6:12-13 Gideon afraid of the Midianites

Angel was sent by God with a message for Gideon.

Lk1:26-27, 30-31 angel- greatest message ever

The virgin will be with child, his name is Jesus, and he will be the Savior of the world.

What do angels do?

Now lets look at what angels do:

1. Angels give direction

Just looked at story about Mary.

Imagine what her fiancée Joseph thought about this. Mary proceeds to convince him that she was impregnated by God. Joseph proceeds to do what any sane man would do in a situation like this and put the wedding on hold.

God sent an angel to Joseph-

Mtt 1:20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

Consider this unusual story in the OT-

Nu 22:21-28 tell the story

God must of felt sorry for the donkey and opened his mouth so he could speak to Balaam.

Really unusual- Balaam talks back to the donkey.

Finally God opens his eyes to see the angel.

Balaam wanted to go in a certain direction and God sent an angel to redirect him.

You may find a time in your life when you are bent to go in a certain direction/do a specific thing and you keep running into road blocks.

Perhaps it is an angel of the Lord directing you off the wrong path onto the right path.

2. Angles protect you from danger

Occasionally people talk about their guardian angel.

The Bible does not say everyone has a guardian angel-

Psa 91:11-12

11 For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways.

12 They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone.

Act 12:6-8, 11 Peter freed from prison by an angel

I know- there are angels around us- protecting us.

Perhaps you were in an automobile accident- people look at the car- said- you should be dead.

We do not know how many times God is doing something supernatural to protect us/loved ones.

3. Angels minister to you

Angels can minister God’s love and power to you-

Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?
