Summary: A warning against the church falling away into unbelief like the nation of Israel.
AN UNBELIEVING PEOPLE
Hebrews 3:7-19
Key Verse and Theme: “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:12-13)
1. An example from history. (vs. 7-11)
A. Israel was put in the desert as a test.
B. The fathers of Israel tested God.
C. They were not allowed to enter God’s rest.
2. History repeats itself. (vs. 12-15)
A. It is possible to turn away from the living God.
B. We need to encourage one another daily.
C. Turning away from God leads to being deceived by sin.
3. Why were they not allowed to enter God’s rest? (vs. 16-19)
A. They heard, and yet rebelled.
B. They sinned.
C. They disobeyed God.
4. While it is still called Today, ask yourself…
A. Are you turning away from the living God? (John 8:31)
B. Are you being encouraged daily?
C. Are you being deceived by sin?
D. Are you going to enter God’s rest?
