I. GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN TO CHRIST
A. AUTHORITY over all men (17:2)
B. THE ELECT (17:2,6,9,24)
C. WORK to be accomplished during His earthly ministry (17:4)
D. GLORY -- which Christ had initially and the Father is going to restore in terms of its visible manifestation (17:5,22,24)
E. WORDS (17:8) to speak
F. ALL THINGS (17:10)
G. NAME (17:11,12)
H. LOVE (17:23,26)
II. GIFTS CHRIST HAS GIVEN TO US
A. PEACE (16:33) -- even in the midst of distress overcoming, victorious peace
B. ETERNAL LIFE (17:2)
context = death, which is but an entrance into life, not our final destination
C. JOY (17:13) the full measure of the joy of Christ
How joyous is Christ?? cf. Heb. 12 "for the joy set before Him"
Joy enabled Him to endure the cross
D. WORD OF GOD (17:14) = TRUTH (17:17)
means of sanctification
E. GLORY (17:22) -- the same glory that God gave to Christ
F. LOVE (17:26) -- caps it all off
