Explores how our perception of God influences our actions, the importance of leaving a spiritual legacy, and glorifying God in all we do.
Hey there, church family! I am so thrilled to be here with you today. I've got something on my heart that I'm really excited to share with you all. We're going to be looking at a passage from Matthew 26, verses 6-8. But before we get into that, I want to share a quote with you that's been on my mind.
It's from the great Christian author, A.W. Tozer, who once said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." That's a powerful statement, isn't it? It's all about perspective. How we perceive God, how we perceive His word, and how we perceive His call on our lives shapes everything we do.
So let's keep that in mind as we look at this passage from Matthew. Here's what it says:
"While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. 'Why this waste?' they asked."
Isn't that something? This woman, pouring out this expensive perfume on Jesus, and the disciples just don't get it. They see it as a waste. But we know that there's more to the story, don't we?
The woman's act of devotion wasn't a waste; it was a powerful demonstration of her love for Jesus. It was a testament to her faith and her understanding of who Jesus was. And it had a profound impact on everyone who witnessed it. The disciples may not have understood it at the time, but later, after Jesus' death and resurrection, they would have remembered this act. They would have realized that the woman was anointing Jesus for His burial, that she was the only one who truly understood what was about to happen. And that understanding would have deepened their own faith and devotion.
First, we need to remember that our actions have a spiritual impact. They can inspire others, deepen our own faith, and bring us closer to God. Second, we need to value people more than things. The woman valued her relationship with Jesus more than her expensive perfume. And third, we need to remember that the value of a gift is not determined by its price tag, but by the love and devotion it represents.
We can apply these lessons by being mindful of our actions and their impact on others. We can strive to value people more than things, to give generously and selflessly, and to demonstrate our love and devotion in tangible ways. And we can remember that our actions can have a profound spiritual impact, even if others don't understand or appreciate them at the time.
The woman's understanding of the significance of her act: She wasn't just pouring perfume on Jesus; she was anointing Him, preparing Him for His burial ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
