Message Point: The celebration of the first Advent reminds us that Jesus is coming again.

Focus Passage: Matthew 24:1-14

Introduction: Advent: the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.

I. The First Coming

a. Prophecies told about the birth of the Messiah

b. They were ignored by most

c. The Jews thought the Messiah would deliver them from the Romans

d. Jesus came in peace as a baby

e. Jesus came to die

II. The Signs to Tell Us

a. False Messiahs and prophets

b. Wars and rumors of wars

c. Famines and earthquakes

d. Persecution of Christians

e. Many will fall away from the faith

f. Increased lawlessness

g. Love for one another grows cold

III. The Second Coming

a. Many are ignoring the signs and prophecies

b. Jesus will come as a King

c. Jesus will rule

Application/Invitation: The prophecies of the Bible are being worked out before our very eyes, yet most in the world ignore them, just like the Jews did at the first coming of Christ. You must be ready, for no one knows the day or the hour but the Father.
