Summary: Let's identify the blessings that come from having God as our Heavenly Father…

1. ASSURANCE (15)

Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves.

We sang the song earlier this morning, we are no longer slaves to fear.

It is NOT your Father’s will for you to live with fear and anxiety

1 John 4:18 (NIV2011)

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…

God does not operate in fear and terror. That is a mark of the enemy of our souls…not your Heavenly Father.

2. ADOPTION (15)

Romans 8:15 Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

I have good news for you…you’re adopted

You belong to God and He has a purpose for you!

Ephesians 1:5 (NLT2)

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

The Greatest Day…

3. AFFIRMATION (16)

Romans 8:16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. ?

If you have any doubts about what God thinks about you, I want you to read this verse again

The Lord’s mercy is greater and much more consistent than we can realize.

God’s love is greater than my mistakes. — he is also greater than your doubts.

John 1:12 (NIV2011)

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

4. ANTICIPATION (17)

Romans 8:17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

We anticipate two things:

1. His Glory

Galatians 4:6-7 (NLT2)

And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,

prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are

his child, God has made you his heir.

We go from being a slave to sin, to a child of God, to an heir of his glory

There is more than this life…eternity with Him awaits us

2. His Suffering

1 Peter 4:13 (NLT2)

Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so

that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the

world.

Paul keeps it real here…there will be a cost to this relationship

The VALUE of this relationship is much greater than the COST!
