A Word To Mothers Of Bad Kids

Deuteronomy 21:18-21

"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they chastise him, will not give heed to them, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear, and fear." (RSV)

"When a man has a stubborn son, a real rebel who won’t do a thing his mother and father tell him, and even though they discipline him he still won’t obey, his father and mother shall forcibly bring him before the leaders at the city gate and say to the city fathers, "This son of ours is a stubborn rebel; he won’t listen to a thing we say. He’s a glutton and a drunk."

Introduction: ILL.- Did you hear about the three sons who left home, went out on their own and prospered? Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.

nor am I going to preach judgement

rather, a recognition that there are mothers of bad kids

-mothers who aren’t as happy with Mother’s Day

-mothers who would rather hide than celebrate

-mothers like Pamela Helder

Every parent wishes the best

-from even before the child is born

-buy the best clothes, toys

-talk, sing to the preborn child

-as the child grows

-a good parent watches over their child

-Proverb 22:6
