A Way To Make It Work
1 Peter 2:1-10
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, }
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
I have entitled this today: “A Way To Make It Work”
Last week we talked about going to a new house. God has a call and a plan for everyone.
God is trying to take us all to new places in the things of Him, He is trying to get us to listen to His voice and listen to His bid.
In 1 Peter 2:1 Peter says: Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
These things can only be laid aside when we place the Cross of Christ as our object of faith.
In order to go where it is that God has planned for us, we have to be willing lay aside all of these things because if we don’t, then we are not being obedient to Jesus and what He wants us to do as Christians.
If a person is newly saved then they desire the sincere milk of the Word, but if we have been saved awhile then we need the meat of the Word.
In verse four it says: To whom coming, this is talking about Jesus.
As unto a living stone, Jesus is the Rock of my salvation.
Disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, this is referring to the rejection of Jesus by Israel.
Man has disallowed who God has chosen.
1 Peter 2:5
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
We are lively stones because of being in Christ, Christ is not dead and neither should we be.
We are lively stones that are built up a spiritual house; this is referring to the church, all of those who are born again.
We are to offer up spiritual sacrifices, this is talking about the cross and our faith in the finished work.
If it is truly spiritual then our faith will be in the finished work at the cross.
Faith in Christ and the cross alone is acceptable to God; this means faith having anything else as its object is unacceptable.
Peter says in verse six: Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
Isaiah 28:16
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
This is saying Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone, which is important to our faith.
1 Peter 2:7
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
To you and me, He is precious but not to the world, He is head of the corner.
1 Peter 2:8
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
The Stone of stumbling was the Cross.
1 Corinthians 1:23-24
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
