Summary: Just as Jesus had things to share with His disciples he as the same things to share with us.

A Walk With Jesus

(Mark 1:16-28)

Mark 1:16-28

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. KJV

Introduction: In our scripture text we see Christ beginning His personal ministry. We see Christ walking the sea shore of Galilee waiting for the divine appointment God had ordained.

There are some great truths that we see in these verses. Let’s go through our scripture text and look at what we can learn. In our scripture we see the life of Christ and what Christ wanted to teach these new converts.

1.) What Christ Saw: (Vs. 16 & 19)

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

a.) Faithful men not fishermen.

b.) Soul winners not sailors.

c.) Church leaders not common laborers.

2.) What Christ Said: (vs. 17 & 20)

17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

a.) He gave them and invitation. (come)

b.) He offered them inclusion. (ye)

c.) He offered them involvement. (after me)

d.) He told them they could become innovators. (fishers of men)

3.) What Christ Shared: (Vs 21-22)

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

a.) The importance of God’s house. (the synagogue)

b.) The instruction of God’s word. (and taught)

c.) The intensity of God’s authority.

(were astonished)

4.) What Christ Showed: (Vs. 23-28)

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

a.) The opposition of Satan. (man with an unclean spirit)

b.) The operation of the Savior. (hold thy peace)

c.) The omnipotence of God. (he came out, for with authority)

d.) The observation of men. (his fame spread)

Conclusion: Christ is still seeking for those that are willing. We have heard our president say that the USA is putting together the coalition of the willing. Well Christ is looking for a coalition of the willing. Christ is still extending the same invitation to you and me. And that is to come. Christ still has things to share with us. And He still has things to show us.

I remember a song that I heard years ago. It said, “He saw not what I was, but saw what I could be.”
