A VOICE FROM HEAVEN
Luke 3:21-22
Introduction:
We see a key moment in Scripture that starts Jesus' public ministry- His baptism in the Jordan River. As He is baptized, we witness not just an act of obedience but also a powerful message from God that speaks to us even today. In this event, we see the Holy Spirit come down on Jesus like a dove, and we hear the voice of God the Father saying, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” This special moment reveals the deep love God has for His Son and sets the stage for the message of grace and redemption that unfolds in the Gospel.
As we explore "A Voice From Heaven," we are encouraged to think about what this message means for us today. God’s powerful Words not only tell us who Jesus is as the Son of God, but they also show us the loving relationship between God and His creation. This passage invites us to recognize our own worth as children of God. In a world where many people feel lost or unworthy, this sermon reminds us of the truth in our heavenly Father's voice- A voice that brings us comfort, direction, and calls us into a closer walk of faith as we share our own stories filled with His love.
Luke 3:21-22
A voice of…
1. Promise.
In the baptism accounts of Jesus in Luke 3:21-22, Matthew 3:13-17, and Mark 1:9-11, we witness a significant moment where a voice from Heaven proclaims, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” This affirmation is more than just a recognition of Jesus' identity; it symbolizes God's deep love and purpose for all humanity. The voice highlights God’s covenant with us, assuring us that we are known and loved, which transforms our understanding of our relationship with Him. Importantly, this promise applies not just to Jesus but to all who embrace Him, confirming our identities as beloved children of God and empowering us to pursue our divine purposes.
Practically, acknowledging this promise can deeply change how we live our everyday lives. It encourages us to find purpose in knowing we are cherished by God. In times of struggle or self-doubt, remembering this promise can strengthen our faith and motivate us to act. It also inspires us to share this message of worth and belonging with others, especially in a World where many feel undervalued. By living out this voice of promise in our communities, we become beacons of hope, inviting others to recognize their own identity as God’s beloved children. Thus, responding to this divine promise is both a fundamental truth of our faith and a call to impact those around us positively.

2. Authority.
When God spoke from Heaven and declared, “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased”; this moment was crucial for understanding who Jesus is as God's Son and shows us the deep love and authority God has over Him. While many focus on Jesus' ministry after this event, it's essential to remember that this affirmation from Heaven helps us see how God relates to us. Just as God recognized Jesus' role, He also calls us to recognize His power and authority in our lives today.
Understanding and listening to God's voice is vital for our spiritual growth. When we ignore God’s guidance, we can lose sight of His purpose for us. Learning to hear God's voice helps us view the World as He does. In challenging times, we can trust that God is working everything out for our good. This trust requires us to follow His will, even when it's hard or goes against our desires. When we pray, we can ask God to help us tune into His voice and recognize His authority in our lives. As we do this, we’ll find ourselves living in harmony with His plans, experiencing peace and joy from following Him. Just as Jesus embraced His mission, may we also learn to submit to God's authority, knowing that He is always working for our best.

3. Assurance.
This moment not only confirms Jesus as the Son of God but also reminds us of who we are as followers of Christ. God’s voice shows that He loves Jesus deeply and invites us to realize that we, too, are part of His family. Because of this, we can be sure that we are loved by God, and our value doesn’t come from our successes or what others think of us, but from our relationship with Him.
In everyday life, this message of assurance helps us feel more confident and at peace. When we face difficulties or feel unsure of ourselves, we can remind ourselves that God calls us "beloved." This powerful truth can change how we see ourselves and encourage us to live out our faith boldly. We can also support each other in our Church by reminding our friends and family of their worth as Children of God. When we share stories about how God has been faithful and loving, we help drown out doubts and feelings of insecurity. In doing this, we reflect the assurance of God’s love to one another, bringing hope and acceptance to a world that sometimes tries to make us feel less than valuable.
