Summary: The Christian can rejoice as we envision the empty tomb and the wonderful promise given by our Lord that "because I live, ye shall live also."
A VISIT TO THE TOMB OF CHRIST
"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay." Matthew 28:6
I. THE PERSON REFERRED TO: THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Isaiah (6:1) said: "I saw the Lord, high and lifted up, and His glory filled the temple."
Peter proclaimed: "He is Lord of all." Acts 10:36
II. THE PLACE WHERE THE LORD LAY: THE TOMB.
A PLACE NOT HIS OWN! The new tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.
A PLACE OF SHORT DURATION! "…so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Matthew 12:40
A PLACE POWERFULLY GUARDED! "Pilate said to them, ’You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.’ And they went and made the grave secure, and along with the guard they set a seal on the stone." Matthew 27:65-66.
A PLACE WHERE CHRIST AROSE WITH POWER AND GLORY!
"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said." Matthew 28:6.
III. THE POWERS THAT WERE DEFEATED THERE:
SATAN: "He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."
SIN: "…He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself." Hebrews 9:26
DEATH AND THE GRAVE: "…death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" I Cor. 15:54-55
IV. THE POWER THAT ETERNALLY PREVAILED THERE:
"Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and Hades." Revelation 1:17-18.
"Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel." II Timothy 1:10.
"Because I live, ye shall live also." John 14:19
"But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep…For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive." I Cor. 15:20, 22.
