A Surer Word Of Prophecy

2 Peter 1:16-21

16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

I have entitled this today: “A Sure Word Of Prophecy”

We, as a church, need to be grounded in the truth; we need to remember that it is the truth that will set us free from the things that entangle us.

The truth is Jesus Christ and Him crucified, there is no other truth than this.

John 8: 31-32

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Peter wanted the people to remember the words that Jesus had given unto them.

2 Peter 1:13 talks about Peter stirring up the people by putting them in remembrance.

In verses 13 and 14 Peter is talking about his physical tabernacle, his body, he knew that he was not going to live much longer after he wrote this.

Even after Peter was gone, he wanted the people to remember what had been spoken.

2Pe 1:15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

This presents the third time that the Apostle makes reference to keeping in remembrance the conditions of entrance into eternal life.

2 Peter 1:16

16. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

This refers to heresies which were being taught by false teachers; in other words any thing that leads away from Christ and the Cross.

Peter and the other Apostles made known unto them the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,

There is power in Jesus today; with God all things are possible.

They were eyewitnesses of His majesty!

This is talking about the transfiguration, which was an actual demonstration of Christ coming in His glory to earth to set up His Kingdom.

2 Peter 1:17-18

17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

Peter was not relating something that was second hand but something that he had personally experienced.

2 Peter 1:19

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Peter here is speaking of the Old Testament, which is the Word of God, even more sure than his personal experience.

This verse is saying that the Word of God is the only true light which alone can dispel the spiritual darkness.

A lot of people want to hear a surer Word of Prophecy; a sure Word comes from what is recorded on the inside of your Bible.

A personal experience can be misinterpreted, but with Word if applied right and prayed through, there is understanding.

There have been times where there has been a Word of Prophecy that has been spoken over me.

I think about when we were going to Trinity and Brother Freck was there.

He was speaking Words over people. I put my hands up in the air and I said under my breath, “God, if everything that you have shown me really is from you, and what you told me was going to happen let him Prophesy over me right now.”

As soon as I said it, Brother Freck who did not know who I was said the man back there in the White shirt I just saw a blue fire come from your hands, you don’t even know that I am talking about you, but yes I did.
