Summary: When the storms of life arise....Jesus is still on the boat with His children and can still say "Peace, Be Still"

A Savior who can Still "Still the Storm"!

Mark 4: 35 – 41

Powerful Storms on the Sea of Galilee were nothing in Jesus day. They are still very common today. These storms come quickly and very unexepectedly.

Sailors, both then and now, know that when the cold air of Mount Herman clashed with the warm of air over the open sea of Galilee, violent storms arise. These storms arise with enough speed and power to cause even the most experienced sailors to fear for their lives.

Even today, here in America we have seen the death and destruction that great storms can cause.

Great storms like Hugo, Andrew, Katrina ……….Ernesto

But, as individuals, Satan will often send Great Storms into our lives.

I believe Satan was behind this Storm, on this day, on the Sea of Galilee.

Three Great things I see from this passage that can apply to our lives!

1. I see a Great Storm - vs.37 –

even the Word of God describes this event as a great storm. We often have Great Storms in our lives.

a. Great Discouragement – Satans most effective tools against Christians

b. Great Destruction – [Ship was full]

c. Great Division – Ships were separated being tossed to and fro.

i. Storms bring Division between you and your family

ii. Division between you and your Friends

iii. Division between you and your Heavenly Father

2. I see Great Seriousness – Captain had lost control of the ship.

Great Seriousness when we lose control of our lives.

a. They got focused on the storm

b. They developed fears due to the storm

i. Job Loses

ii. Marital problems - Divorce

iii. Health problems – Cancer, etc.

c. The forgetfulness during the storm – Vs.35 “let us pass over unto the other side.”

Often been said: Jesus said it, I believe it, and that settles its!

If Jesus said it – that settles it! Titus 1:2 tells us that God cannot lie.

3. I see a Great Savior - vs. 39

a. I hear the Power in His words

b. I feel the Power in His Ways

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

c. I discovered the Power in his works

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
