Summary: GOD DESIRES SPIRITUAL WORSHIP.

A SACRIFICE OF THANKSGIVING

OBSERVATION: THE PSALMIST (DAVID) EXPRESSES HIS DEEP LOVE FOR THE LORD.

INTERPRETATION: PSALMS 116: 17 (NKJV) I WILL OFFER TO YOU THE SACRIFICE OF THANKSGIVING, AND WILL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. PSALMS 116:17 (THE BOOK) I WILL OFFER YOU A SACRIFICE OF THANKSGIVING AND CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD.

POINTS TO PONDER:

THE WORDS OF THIS PSALM WERE PROPHETICALLY FULFILLED WHEN SUNG BY JESUS THE NIGHT BEFORE HIS CRUCIFIXION (MATTHEW 26:30).

CHRIST INSTIGATED A NEW COVENANT FULFILLING THE OLD COVENANT AND SET IT ASIDE. THIS DOES NOT SUGGEST THAT TRIALS AND EVEN PAIN SUBSIDE ALTOGETHER. IT DOES SUGGEST A NEW DOOR HAS OPENED TO BELIEVERS WHO CAN REJOICE IN THEIR SALVATION. UNRESTRAINED, YOU CAN OFFER A SACRIFICE OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING.

PSALMS 50: 14 (NKJV) OFFER TO GOD THANKSGIVING, AND PAY YOUR VOWS TO THE MOST HIGH.

THIS VERSE CONTRASTS THE VERSES IN PSALMS 50: 8-13. THE AUTHOR ADDRESSES A MUCH MORE PERSONAL OFFERING UNTO THE LORD. THE PERSON CALLING ON YAHWEH (LORD) IN A TIME OF NEED FOLLOWED BY A THANK OFFERING, USUALLY MADE WITH VOWS DURING THE PETITION. SINCERE DEVOTION MUST BE EVIDENT! THIS MINDSET IS HEART, FAITH, SUBMISSION AND LOVE FOR GOD.

GOD ORDAINED SACRIFICIAL OFFERING UNDER THE OLD COVENANT. CHRIST WAS THE PERFECT SACRIFICE UNDER THE NEW COVENANT, CONVEYING THE REALITY THAT THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM COULD OFFER CONTRITION, GRATITUDE, DEVOTION, SUBMISSION, LOVE AND OBEDIENCE.

APPLICATION: GOD’S DESIRE IS SPIRITUAL WORSHIP FROM THE HEART!
