To explore the concept of living with purpose, using the story of the Road to Emmaus from the Gospel of Luke as a guide, and viewing each day as a new beginning.

Introduction

Good Morning, Church! Today, we'll be journeying together on the road to somewhere. We'll be exploring the idea of living with purpose, through the lens of a fascinating passage from the Gospel of Luke, specifically, Luke 24:13-35. I think John Piper puts it best when he says, "God created me—and you—to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion—namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying his supreme excellence in all the spheres of life." It's all about seeing each day as either a sunset or a sunrise, an ending or a new beginning.

This scripture passage, also known as the Road to Emmaus, is a beautifully written narrative that captures the essence of our topic today. Let's read together. [Read text.]

Let's open our hearts and minds as we delve into this passage and explore what it truly means to live with purpose by beginning with prayer. Dear Lord, we invite You into our hearts today. Open our eyes to see Your purpose for us. Give us the courage to walk the path You've laid out for us, even when it's hard to see where it leads. Teach us to see every sunset as a prelude to a new sunrise, a new beginning in You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Living with a Purpose

Living with a purpose is not just about having a goal or a dream. It's about aligning our lives with the divine plan that God has for each of us. It's about recognizing that we are not here by accident, but that we are here for a reason. It's about understanding that our lives have meaning and that we have a role to play in God's grand narrative.

Living with purpose also means living with passion. It means waking up each day with a sense of excitement about what the day holds. It means going to bed each night with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that we have spent our day doing something meaningful. It means living each moment with a sense of urgency, knowing that we have a mission to fulfill and that every second counts.

However, living with purpose is not always easy. It requires courage, determination, and perseverance. It requires us to step out of our comfort zones and to take risks. It requires us to face our fears and to overcome our doubts. It requires us to make sacrifices and to make tough decisions. But most importantly, it requires us to trust in God and to surrender our lives to Him.

When we live with purpose, we are not just living for ourselves. We are living for God. We are living for the people around us. We are living for the world. We are living for a cause that is bigger than ourselves. We are living for a purpose that transcends our own existence.

Living with purpose is not just about doing, it's also about being. It's about being who God created us to be. It's about being true to ourselves and to our calling. It's about being a light in the world and a beacon of hope to those around us. It's about being a reflection of God's love and grace in a world that desperately needs it.

Living with purpose is not a destination, it's a journey. It's a journey that starts with a single step, a step of faith. It's a journey that is filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, joys and sorrows. But it's a journey that is worth every step because it's a journey that leads us closer to God and closer to the person that He created us to be.

Living with purpose is also a lifestyle. It's a lifestyle that is characterized by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. It's a lifestyle that is marked by service, sacrifice, and selflessness. It's a lifestyle that is driven by faith, hope, and love.

Living with purpose is a commitment. It's a commitment to live our lives in a way that honors God and blesses others. It's a commitment to use our gifts and talents to make a difference in the world. It's a commitment to live our lives with integrity, authenticity, and humility. It's a commitment to live our lives for something greater than ourselves.
