A Prayer Against Divorce

Mal 2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

Mal 2:15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

Father, today I pray against divorce. The passage speaks to the man, but women also do the same thing.

99% of the time it is the one filing that is the problem, not the one they are leaving and they will take their problems into the next relationship(s). They will come to regret their action and more often than not they cannot go back. They will live in regret and shame even if they appear happy with the new person.

In the spirit of Hosea 2:6,7 I pray God that You will cut off the lover(s) that are influencing the one that is seeking an unjust divorce. Make them lose interest. Send another to steal them away. Make the one seeking the divorce come back first to You and then to their spouse. Let the Holy Spirit be an egg beater in their brain turning it to mush so they have to seek You. If there are people at their job giving them evil advice shut their mouths even if it means they take another job or lose their job. Just silence them!

Matthew 19:7  They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 

8  He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 

9  And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

I pray against the pastors who misuse this passage as an automatic free to divorce card when there is infidelity. That is not what this passage teaches. This was the woman coming to the marriage bed as not a virgin, not adultery. There was no bill of divorcement for adultery. Adultery carried a death sentence.

Many marriages have been healed from infidelity. Pastors have condoned and encouraged divorce for infidelity thus putting both parties in a state of adultery should they remarry. Indeed, if true Christians get a divorce they are to remain celibate or reconcile. There is no such thing as divorce for incompatible differences. We and God are vastly incompatible and yet He is committed to us until death. Choose wisely you mate and bring back until death do we part.

I pray for the one being divorced that You will bring peace and healing to them. May they find their joy in You and You will be their Husband and Father to the children. You are the avenger so may they commit the offender to You. You can deal far better with the offender than they can.

If you are planning a divorce then plan to stay single as there are only a couple of instances that you can divorce and remarry without living in adultery. Leaving your spouse for another is not one of them.

Lord, bring the offender to their senses before it is too late. They are not only destroying their marriage, their spouse and children, but themselves as well. Satan comes destroy so this is not of God no matter how you may wish to twist Scripture to make it just.

Lord, put an end to divorce in Your Body! Strike down this cancer and heal us! Amen and Amen! Maranatha!
