Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon encourages us to actively engage with the Word of God, not just as a text, but as a living encounter with Jesus Christ.
Good morning, beloved congregation. It's a joy to gather with you today, to share in the fellowship of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to delve into the richness of His Word. We are here in the house of God, not as mere attendees, but as active participants in the divine narrative of salvation and love. It's a narrative that unfolds in the pages of the Bible, and it's a narrative that continues to unfold in our lives today.
Our focus today is on the Scripture passage from John 2:13-22. This passage is not just a story from the past, but a living word for us today. It's a passage that calls us to belief, to behold, and to burn with zeal for the house of God. It's a passage that invites us to enter more deeply into the mystery of God's love, to experience the power of Jesus' words, and to share in the passion of his heart.
Before we read the Scripture, let me share a quote from the great preacher Charles Spurgeon. He once said, "A Bible that’s falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t." This quote reminds us of the importance of being grounded in the Word of God. It reminds us that the Bible is not just a book to be read, but a life to be lived. It's a reminder that our faith is not just about knowing the right doctrines, but about living the right way.
Now, let's read the Scripture passage together: "When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, 'Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!' His disciples remembered that it is written: 'Zeal for your house will consume me.' The Jews then responded to him, 'What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?' Jesus answered them, 'Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.' They replied, 'It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?' But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken."
The first thing we notice in this passage is Jesus' protest against the commercialization of religion ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
