Summary: What is True Salvation?
“A New Name In Glory”
Acts 10:44-48
We ended with verse 44, last time together, but will begin with the same.
What is Salvation?
This is a question that many have attempted to answer with other than Biblical truth.
Salvation is not Church attendance
Salvation is not baptism
Salvation is not doing more good than bad
Salvation is not a prayer without repentance
Salvation is not believing there is a God
Salvation is not trusting in self
And the list could go on and on.
So what is Salvation?
Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
That is a great statement but it still does not answer the question.
True salvation is a profound transformation of the heart and spirit that leads to reconciliation with God.
It involves acknowledging one’s sins, repentance, embracing forgiveness, and committing to follow Jesus Christ.
Ultimately, true salvation signifies liberation from spiritual bondage and the consequences of sin, allowing individuals to experience a restored relationship with God.
There are ways to see the gift of salvation in others:
1. A Genuine Love for God: A true believer has a deep love for God and desires to know Him more.
2. Obedience to God's Commands: True salvation is evidenced by a willingness to obey God's Word and live according to His teachings.
3. A Changed Life: There is a noticeable transformation in behavior and attitudes, reflecting a new creation in Christ.
4. Desire for Fellowship: A true believer seeks fellowship with other Christians and desires to be part of the church community.
5. A Heart for Service: There is a desire to serve others and share the love of Christ through actions.
6. Joy and Peace: True salvation brings a sense of joy and peace that surpasses understanding, even in difficult circumstances.
7. Assurance of Salvation: A true believer has confidence in their salvation and the promise of eternal life.
I have said many times… “If there was NO change then there was NO change.”
Which simply means that salvation does not leave us in our sin, but rather transforms us from a sinner into a sinless person IN CHRIST!
Let’s look at this transformation; shall we?
I. A Time Of Salvation
Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Upon True Salvation we find the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
1 Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”
Is there a time when you discovered that you were lost?
If I told you that I just paid your debt and you did not know you even had a deb, you could get mad.
“I don’t need your help.”
But if you knew of a debt that you were unable to pay and then I said, “I have paid your debt” Your response would be completely different.
II. A Time Of Surprise
Acts 10:45-46 “And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,”
Cannot say for anyone else but I have seen many times people upset because someone trusted Christ and that person mad decided that the other person did not deserve salvation.
Well … salvation is not up to you or me it belongs to God!
For they heard them speak with tongues - That is another language.
What a great gift to speak Christ to others with a language you did not learn but a language that was given to you.
III. A Time Of Surrender
Acts 10:47 “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?”
Baptized - baptizo (bap-tid’-zo) - to immerse, to submerge
Baptism is not salvation it is the outward testimony of your salvation by Christ.
His Death
His Burial
His Resurrection
IV. A Time Of Solicitation (Request)
Acts 10:48 “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
With the Baptism complete, Peter was asked to stay awhile.
Why would this be important?
1. Grow in knowledge of the Lord
2. Grow in fellowship with other believers
