A Nation's Hope

Summary: The only hope any nation has is given to us by the psalmist.
The Nation’s Hope
Psalms 33:1-22
We are living in uncertain times. Our nation’s three branches of government has uninvolved itself from God and has gone the way of the majority of the world. The path of happiness for man is sought in his own ideas and desires.
See: Vs.12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD…
The Bible tells us here that the happiness of a nation only rest in its relationship with God.
What is it that will cause us as a nation and people to return unto the LORD from this reckless course we have set ourselves on?
1. The Returning Of Praise Unto The LORD
See: Vs.1-5 Praise is comely (right or suitable) for the upright
Praise Him with harp; sing unto Him with psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
Here is why He is worthy of our praise:
See: Vs.4
a. His Word (It is just and righteous)
b. His Works
“They are done in truth”
See: Vs.5 The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD
There was a time when the three branches of government use to praise the LORD for His goodness. Today this praise is given to man.
2. Recognize Him As Our Creator
See: Vs.6 By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made…
In the classrooms of secular education God is excluded from creation and it is a sad indicator of what this nation has become.
Vs.7 The sea is used as evidence of His creation. It was God that put everything in its place.
Mention: Vs.9 He spake and it was done, He commanded, and it stood still
Vs.8 Let all the earth fear the LORD…stand in awe of Him
See: Psalms 100:3-5 We have not made ourselves
3. Remember He Is Interested In Our Affairs
See: Vs.10-11 The thoughts of His heart to all generations
Mention: Psalms 8:4 What is man that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man that thou visitest him?
Mention: Acts 14:17 Paul speaks of how the LORD send us rain, fruitful seasons and food etc..,
See: Psalms 65:9 God visitest the earth with rain etc..,
See: Vs.13-15 He considereth all their works
Everything we do is at His best interest and we will one day have to give an account.
4. Rely On Him For Safety
See: Vs.16-17 No king saved by a multitude of host…man is not delivered by much strength
This has been demonstrated even in the history of this great nation as we were clearly underdogs, outmatched by the armies of England but General Washington and other great leaders with farmers and businessmen fighting did the impossible at the hand of God.
Mention: Judges 7 Gideon with 300 men sent 135,000 Midianites to flight at the hand of God
See: Proverbs 21:31 Safety is of the LORD
This next verse is what causes me to be concern for our nation
See: Vs.18-19 The eyes of the LORD is upon them that fear Him…
The way we demonstrate we fear the LORD is by heeding to the counsel of the LORD
O how I wish this was our testimony. See: Vs.20-21
5. Repent For Mercy From The LORD
Vs.22 Let thy mercy, O LORD be upon us, according as we hope in thee
