A Hand Full Of Meal In A Barrel

John 1:1-5 (King James Version)
John 1
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2The same was in the beginning with God.
3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
This morning we continue on the widow woman in 1st Kings seventeen.
We find in in verse 12 she that she had three things in her possession when Elijah arrived on the scene.
1 Kings 17:12 (King James Version)
12And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
Last week we looked at the significance of the two sticks and how they represent the cross at Calvary.
We must understand this morning that the three , the two sticks, the meal, and the oil were all essential to what was about to take place.
This morning we are going to look at the significance of the meal.
1. The meal represents the Word of God.
Any miracle will always be preceded by the Word Of God being applied or interjected into the situation.
The widow woman found herself in a very dark situation. But look what the Word of God says in our opening text.
5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
When the bread of life is applied it is impossible for the circumstance not to change.
The Words of Jesus heals the sick. The words of Jesus cast out devils and brings the dead back to life!
In Isaiah chapter 6 the doorpost of the throne room moved at the voice of the seraphims as they cried out Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Host!
The Word of God spoken in faith to the biggest mountain will cause it to move. Even the tree will be plucked up and cast itself into the sea at the spoken Word of God.
Jesus is the Word! And in his name we will tread on serpants and scorpions , in his name we will cast out devils , in his name we will lay hands on the sick and they will recover!
Matthew 8:23-27 (King James Version)
23And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
2. The dire situation that the widow woman was in never stood a chance once the meal started to be stirred up !
The minute the meal and the sticks came together , the minute the Word touched the cross the darkness never had a chance!
God wants to stir the Word that is in somebody this morning!
John 14:26 (King James Version)
26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
And Now the Widow Woman is combining the Sticks, The Bread and now the oil! Oh my Goodness!
Look at that darkness right now that is going on in your life and say “ darkness your in trouble!” I have Jesus. I have the cross! I have the Holy Spirit! “ hey darkness you can’t comprehend the light!” I have Jesus and Jesus is mine. This is my story darkness! This is my song darkness!
3. The meal never ran out.
1 Kings 17:16 (King James Version)
16And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
1 Peter 1:25 (King James Version)
25But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
This morning someone is getting tired of everything in life running out .
It is time to turn to the Word of God. It is time to turn to Jesus!
God Bless and Amen.
