Matthew 7:24-29

II. The Corner Stone (Ephesians 2:19-22)

a. The firm foundation is laid by all those before us (Hebrews 12:1)

b. The successful stability is found in Christ (Psalm 118:22)

III. The Continued Building upon the Foundation (1 Corinthians 3:9-15)

a. Cautious preparation must precede labor

b. Our works, good or bad, are built upon the foundation

c. In time, our faithfulness will be exposed (1 Corinthians 4:5; Job 23:10)

Luke 6:47-49— 47"(A)Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49"But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great."

Ephesians 2:19-22— 19So then you are no longer (A)strangers and aliens, but you are (B)fellow citizens with the saints, and are of (C)God’s household, 20having been (D)built on (E)the foundation of (F)the apostles and prophets, (G)Christ Jesus Himself being the (H)corner stone, 21(I)in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into (J)a holy temple in the Lord, 22in whom you also are being (K)built together into a (L)dwelling of God in the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:9-15— 9For we are God’s (A)fellow workers; you are God’s (B)field, God’s (C)building. 10According to (D)the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder (E)I laid a foundation, and (F)another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11For no man can lay a (G)foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13(H)each man’s work will become evident; for (I)the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will (J)receive a reward. 15If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet (K)so as through fire.
