Summary: A Final Farewell
Acts 20 v 25 - 38 A Final Farewell
His Departure was -
Certain - 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all,
Sacred - among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God,
Sad - shall see my face no more.
His Defence - 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day,
that I am pure from the blood of all men.
A Duty - Imposed, Disclosed, Opposed, and Disposed.
What a statement - I am pure
What a standing - from the blood
What a standard - of all men.
Ezekiel 33:8
The Source - When I say unto the wicked,
The Sentence - O wicked man, thou shalt surely die;
The Service - if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way,
The Solemnity - that wicked man shall die in his iniquity;
The Summons - but his blood will I require at thine hand.
His Declaration was -
Faithful - 27 For I have not shunned
Fearless - to declare unto you
Full - all the counsel of God.
His Direction
His Caution - 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves,
His Care - and to all the flock,
His Call - over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers,
His Commission - to feed the church of God,
His Commitment - which he hath purchased with his own blood.
His Detection of -
Trouble Without - 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Trouble Within - 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
James 4:
The Strife - 1 From whence come wars and fightings among you?
The Stream - come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
The Struggle - 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
The Strop - 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss,
that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Trouble Withal - 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears
His Dedication To The -
Will of God - 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and
Word of God - to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up,
Work of God - and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
His Discretion - 33 I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.
His Determination - 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
His Demonstration - 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
His Destination was -
Set - 36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down,
and prayed with them all.
Settled - 37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more.
Sanctioned - And they accompanied him unto the ship.
