A Child Who Pleases the Father
It is not without reason that, as parents, we feel immense joy when we see our children grow up and love God. On the other hand, we feel sadness when we see our children living in disorder. One Bible verse that is often referenced about a child who pleases the Father is:
"And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man."
(Luke 2:52)
This verse shows that Jesus, as the Son of God, is the perfect example of a child who pleases the Father because of His life full of wisdom, spiritual growth, and good relationships with God and others.
Other relevant verses include:
"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward." (Psalm 127:3)
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." (Ephesians 6:1)
Three Examples of Children Who Please the Father
1. Jesus Christ
Jesus is the ultimate example of a child who pleases the Father because of His obedience and faithfulness to God's will. As written in Matthew 3:17: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Obedience is not just about hearing commands, but also about carrying them out. Likewise, as God's people, we often hear God's word, but just listening is not enough—if we want to please the Father, we must practice His word.
2. Samuel
Samuel served God in the temple from a young age and lived a life pleasing to both God and people (1 Samuel 2:26). Samuel is an example of a child who was obedient to God from his youth.
3. Joseph (Son of Jacob)
Joseph remained faithful and obedient to God even though he faced many trials and sufferings (Genesis 39:2-3). Joseph’s life was not as smooth as prosperity theology teaches; he was obedient to God, yet his life was not easy. He faced many things he did not like, but he chose to remain faithful and obedient to God. Imagine if your children were like this—how happy and joyful you would be.
Characteristics of a Child Who Pleases the Father
Obedient to God and Parents:
A child who obeys God's word and honors their parents will please the Father (Ephesians 6:1).
Humble and Willing to Learn:
Like Jesus, who grew in wisdom and humility (Luke 2:52).
Faithful in Small and Big Matters:
A child who is faithful in small responsibilities will be entrusted with greater ones (Luke 16:10).
On the Other Hand: Children Who Do Not Please the Father
A child does not please the Father if they:
Are Rebellious and Disobedient:
"A foolish child brings grief to his father and bitterness to the mother who bore him." (Proverbs 17:25). Today, we often see children who argue with their parents, thinking they are smarter and becoming disrespectful. No matter how bad your parents are, they are still your parents, and as children, you must respect them, even if not all their teachings should be followed.
Refuse Instruction:
"Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence." (Proverbs 15:32). Good parents certainly provide good education to their children. Good children will obey, but disobedient children will grieve their parents.
Live in Sin and Wickedness:
"Woe to the rebellious children, declares the LORD..." (Isaiah 30:1). A child who is disobedient, hard-hearted, and rejects instruction will not please God because their life is far from the truth of God's word.
Important Lesson for Today
As children, especially as children of God, we must honor our parents, especially our father. God's word says, "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long." Every action you take toward your parents will be noticed by your descendants—your children. Children quickly imitate your actions, so do not regret it if your children copy your bad behavio
