Text:

1 Timothy 4:12

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. “

Intro:

Your relationship with Jesus will set the quality of every other relationship in your life. Fix your eyes on Him and watch how it changes things in your life. For everyone who has encountered Jesus and has had the new birth experience, These changes will only happen with discipleship. The foremost purpose of Christian discipleship is to be like Christ. It is described as a training or mentoring platform designed to develop individuals to become more like their Jesus.

It is through discipleship that every child of God is molded

and fashioned to become like Jesus. God places each of His children under training so that

he can grow into the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

And these are the changes that are expected of a Christian who is under discipleship:

Our journey of thought renewal happens by the Word of God. By being obedient to God’s instructions, you are endowed to have strength over your thoughts words and deeds according to God’s will.

1. Changes In thoughts or thinking

A person under discipleship should begin to have the mind of Christ – I Cor.2:16. Our thoughs should be filled with the following:

“Finally, brothers and sisters,

a. whatever is true,

b. whatever is noble,

c. whatever is right,

d. whatever is pure,

e. whatever is lovely,

f. whatever is admirable—

g. if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” -Philippians 4:8

2. Changes in Deeds or attitude

Carnal attitude is a result of a carnal mind.

Romans 8:7

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

But a learner of the Word of God, proper attitude should be manifested in him; and these are the attitude that is expected from us

“But the fruit of the Spirit is

a. love,

b. joy,

c. peace,

d. forbearance,

e. kindness,

f. goodness,

g. faithfulness,

h. gentleness and

i. self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23

3. Changes in In words

Matthew 12:33-37

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

a. Our word should not be filthy

“8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.” Colossians 3:8

b. Our lips should not pronounce unwholesome talk

“29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

c. And should be slow to speak

“19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,..” James 1:19

Conclusion:

Finally my dear brothers and sisters in Christ hearken unto the words of Apostle Paul in

“22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;..” Ephesians 4:22
