Summary: What an amazing scence of what John sees in heaven around the throne of God. He witness the submission of the redeemer for mankind in one who is referred to as a Lion and a Lamb.

The Lion and the Lamb

Rev. 5:1-14

Revelation chapter 5 is in connection with chapter 4 as the scene in heaven around the throne continues. There are some amazing things that take place around the throne.

See: Rev. 5:1-4 John writes about a book that he sees in the right hand of Him who sits on the throne.

1. The Book

Right hand: This is the right hand of God mentioned here and all through the Bible we see the significance of His right hand.

See: Exodus 15:6 In the song of Moses we see the power of God’s right hand

Mention: Psalms 18:35 He upholds us in His right hand

Also: Psalms 60:5 save with thy right hand…

Rev. 1:6, 20 He has the seven stars (pastors) and candlesticks (churches) of the church in His right hand.

And here in Revelation Chapter 5:1 He is holding a book. This book is believed to be the deed and title to the earth.

This book is obviously a scroll that has writing on the back and as well as the inside. It has been sealed with seven seals.

Vs.2-3 Who is worthy to open the book and loose the seven seals? No man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth was able to open or even to look thereon.

Mention: Ezekiel 22:30 A man was sought here but none found

Vs.4 I wept much…

No man was found worthy because all have sinned and come short of God’s glory!

2. The Redeemer

See: Vs.5-6 The Lion and the Lamb

“The Lion of the tribe of Judah” See: Genesis 49:9-10 Jacob in Egypt while blessing his sons prophesy this upon his fourth eldest Judah.

Matt. 2:2 Where is He that is king of the Jews

“The Root of David”

See: Romans 15:12 Paul quotes the words of Isaiah concerning this root

See: Rev. 22:16 The root and the offspring of David…

See: Matt. 22:41-46 Jesus asked the Pharisees a question concerning His deity

Mention: John 8:58 Before Abraham was, I am

“A Lamb as it has been slain”

John 1:29 John said here cometh the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.

Seven horns: Perfect power “Omnipotent” Seven Eyes: Omniscient and Seven Spirit of God: Omnipresent

Vs.7 He take the book (the deed to this world) from the hand of the Father

See: Daniel 7:13-14 This world will become the kingdom of our Lord

See: Rev. 11:15 This is God’s ultimate purpose in the world for it to become His Son.

There are some conditions that had to be met for this to happen!

a. He must have been a kinsmen ref. Hebrews 2:14

b. He must have been wealthy enough ref. Psalms 50:10

c. He must have been willing to do so ref. John 10:18

And of course all of these qualifications were met by our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ

Isaiah 53:10 It pleased the LORD to bruise Him…

3. The Adoration

See: Vs.8-10 And they sung a new song, saying thou art worthy…

Who will be saved? People of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation

“And we shall reign on the earth” This is certainly a reference to the millennial reign

See: Vs.11-12 Worthy is the Lamb that was slain…

See: Vs.13-14 He will be given adoration by the entire universe

See: Phil 2:9-11 One day everyone will bow and confess this truth

This adoration is given because of what He has done and what He will one day become!

Jesus the Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords!
