Sermon Series on Malachi #10

The Day is Coming, Will You Be Ready?

Malachi 4:1-3

Introduction: “behold the day is coming” coming in the Greek is an active participle means it is in action. Wording that we use today to say this is “I am on my way” that means we are in the action of getting there. If I call my sister down in Fort Worth, Texas and tell her I am coming, I’m on my way, and a few hours later she thinks to herself he ain’t here yet! I bet he ain’t coming. And lets just say I call her and said I’m in Oklahoma I’m on my way. And another hour rolls by and she says to her self he isn’t coming! And then I call agine and say I’m entering the Texas border. And another hour rolls by and she thinks he ain’t coming. You would say she is crazy for acting that way that is a 12-hour drive. But that is the way people act. I have heard people say ohh they have been saying Jesus is coming back for 2000 years and he hasn’t yet I don’t think He is coming. Yet that does not mean that he is not coming. There are certain events that must take place, certain places that must be passed.

1. It will be sudden.

A. 1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

B. 2 Peter 3:10 Lets turn there and read the chapter in context

2. It will burn as an oven.

A. Be as stubble. Ever start a fire with a bunch of dry twigs? Talk about burning hot and fast.

B. Leave them neither root nor branch. Leaving nothing not even a seed or root.

But…

3. It will provide healing. Healing from the world. Ever get beat up by the world?

A. “Grow fat” who is going to feed us. The Holy Sprit. verse 2; John 16:7-14

B. “You shall trample the wicked” verse 3; Matthew 16:18; not that we will trample the wicked under foot, but that they will have not power over the church. I believe one of the churches greatest sins is not claming the authority that Jesus gave to the church.
