II. David's Decision - 10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?

C. The might to get even- let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head
D. He refused to get even 10 the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse,
III. David's Discernment - 10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
1. His Prevention 10a - “What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah?”
2. His Perception 10b - “...so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David.”
3. His Prudence 11a - “...my son...seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it?”
4. His Permission let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him
5. His Persuasion - 12 “...it may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.”
Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
IV. David's Discovery - 13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. 14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
1. REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE - A SON OF GOD
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Later When His Kingdom is restored......
2 Sam 19:22 And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel? - “because I am king, I can see this as a small thing.”
2. REMEMBER WHAT YOU ARE - A SINNER SAVED BY GRACE
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
3. REMEMBER WHERE YOU ARE GOING - A SALVATION BY BLOOD
Gravel throwing is a poor substitute for reclaiming a kingdom.
4. REMEMBER HOW IT ENDS - A SEPARATION FOR ETERNITY
1 Kings 2:8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword. 9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood. 10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
1 Kings 2:44 The king (SOLOMON) said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head; 45 And king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD for ever. 46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Seek first his Kingdom and let God take care of the Shimeis'.
