INTRODUCTION:
The message of the gospel is the greatest news in the world—it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16). However, sharing this Good News requires boldness because we live in a world that is often hostile to the truth of Christ. The early disciples faced persecution, threats, and opposition, yet they prayed for boldness rather than retreating in fear.
Acts 4:29-31 records their response when threatened by the Jewish authorities. Instead of keeping silent, they asked God to grant them boldness to continue speaking His Word. Their prayer was answered, and they preached with even greater courage, leading to more souls being won for Christ.
As believers today, we are called to share the gospel with boldness, despite opposition, rejection, or fear. In this message, we will examine the need for boldness in evangelism, the challenges we may face, and how we can receive divine empowerment to proclaim the gospel fearlessly.
1. BOLDNESS IS REQUIRED TO SHARE THE GOSPEL
To effectively share the gospel, we must overcome fear and step out in faith.
a) The gospel must be proclaimed boldly (Acts 4:29)
The early church did not pray for safety but for boldness to continue their mission.
b) Boldness comes from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
We receive power when the Holy Spirit fills us, enabling us to witness effectively.
c) Fear hinders the spread of the gospel (2 Timothy 1:7)
God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and sound mind.
d) Boldness is evidence of a strong faith (Proverbs 28:1)
The righteous are as bold as a lion; we must not be timid in sharing our faith.
e) Biblical Example: Peter and John before the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:18-20)
Despite being threatened, they refused to stop preaching about Jesus.
2. OPPOSITION WILL COME, BUT GOD IS GREATER
The devil will always resist the spread of the gospel, but God’s power prevails.
a) Persecution is part of the Christian journey (John 15:18-20)
Jesus warned that the world would hate His followers just as it hated Him.
b) The enemy uses fear to silence believers (Matthew 10:28)
We should not fear those who can kill the body but not the soul.
c) God always provides strength in the face of opposition (Isaiah 41:10)
He upholds and strengthens those who stand for Him.
d) The gospel cannot be stopped (Matthew 24:14)
No matter the opposition, the gospel will be preached to all nations before the end comes.
e) Biblical Example: Paul and Silas in Prison (Acts 16:23-26)
Despite being beaten and jailed, they sang praises, and God delivered them, leading to salvation in the prison.
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS US FOR BOLD WITNESSING
Without the Holy Spirit, we lack the courage and power to be effective witnesses.
a) The disciples were emboldened after Pentecost (Acts 2:4, 14)
Once filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter preached fearlessly, and 3,000 souls were saved.
b) The Spirit gives wisdom to answer opponents (Luke 12:11-12)
When questioned, the Holy Spirit will give us the right words to speak.
c) He removes timidity and grants boldness (Ephesians 6:19-20)
Paul prayed for boldness to declare the mystery of the gospel.
d) Every believer needs the Holy Spirit’s infilling (Zechariah 4:6)
Evangelism is not by human effort but by the power of the Spirit.
e) Biblical Example: Stephen’s Bold Witness (Acts 6:8-10; 7:55-60)
He fearlessly declared Christ even in the face of death and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
4. BOLD EVANGELISM BRINGS TRANSFORMATION
When we share the gospel courageously, lives are changed, and the kingdom of God expands.
a) Bold preaching leads to revival (Acts 2:41)
Peter’s bold sermon on Pentecost brought 3,000 people to salvation.
b) Fearless evangelism breaks spiritual chains (Mark 5:19-20)
The delivered demoniac shared his testimony, leading many to believe in Christ.
c) Nations can be turned to God through bold witnessing (Jonah 3:4-10)
Jonah preached in Nineveh, and an entire city repented.
d) Boldness in sharing Christ brings divine rewards (Daniel 12:3)
Those who turn many to righteousness will shine like stars forever.
e) Biblical Example: The Samaritan Woman (John 4:28-30, 39)
She boldly told others about Jesus, leading many in her city to believe.
5. HOW TO RECEIVE BOLDNESS TO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS
Boldness is not natural; it is imparted by God.
a) Pray for boldness (Acts 4:29-31)
The early church prayed, and God filled them with courage.
b) Be filled with the Holy Spirit daily (Ephesians 5:18)
A Spirit-filled believer is fearless in proclaiming the gospel.
c) Meditate on God’s promises of courage (Joshua 1:9)
Feeding on God’s Word strengthens our faith and confidence.
