With Great Power comes Great Responsibility. Uncle Ben Spiderman
1. Understanding the Great Power of our Superhero. Vs. 19-20
There are four different Greek synonyms Paul uses here to emphasize the greatness of Christ’s power.
-Dunamis: power from where we get the word for dynamite.
This is the same power that is given to every believer in Christ. Colossians 2:11-12
-Energeia: working, is the energizing force of the Holy Spirit that empowers every believer to live for the Lord.
Ephesians 2:4-5a "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions." (NIV)
-Kratos: strength, and may also be translated: "dominion"
Hebrews 2:14 "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death...that is, the devil." (NIV)
-Ischus: might, carries the idea of endowed power or ability.
Romans 1:16 "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes." (NIV)
Paul explains in verse19 that the Gospel we believe in has every power within us to live Godly and powerful lives. Eph. 3:20
2. Understanding the Greatness of our Superhero. Vs. 21-23
If we will focus on the Greatness of Christ then we will understand the security and empowerment that Christ gives all of His children.
2 Timothy 2:8-10 "Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory." (NIV)
When we focus on Christ and the power of His gospel then even our:
-Physical problems.
-Psychological problems.
-And even our Spiritual problems. All will grow dim before us.
John 15:5 "I am the vine, and you are the branches. If any remain in me and I remain in them, they produce much fruit. But without me they can do nothing." (NCV)
Never forget the power of Christ who has power over every dominion.
Psalms 8 and Philippians 2:5-11
Because Christ’s greatest power was that of His redemptive work.
The church is the fullness of Christ our Superhero!
Ephesians 3:10-12 "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence." (NIV)
