Summary: Will you be silent or speak up?

When Esther found out Mordecai was in such a state, it distressed her, and she sent him garments instead of his sackcloth. When Mordecai refused to accept them, Esther sent her appointed eunuch Hathach to find out what was going on. Mordecai told Hathach everything he knew and gave him a copy of the written decree for their destruction which was given at Shushan so Esther could see it. Mordecai wanted Esther to go to the king on his behalf to plead for her people. Hathach returned and told Esther what Mordecai had told him. Esther 4:3

Esther and Mordecai didn't speak face to face during this time was because anyone wearing sackcloth wasn't allowed to enter the king's gate.

Esther responded through Hathach that all the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that any man or woman who enters the inner court without being called will be put to death except the one who holds out the golden scepter. Esther said she herself hadn't been called to go into the king in those 30 days. Esther 4:10-12

Mordecai responded by saying, "Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king's palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such as time as this?" Esther 4:13-14

Earlier in the book, Mordecai had told Esther to be silent about her nationality and family background. But the time had come for her to speak up. Many times, people make the mistake of speaking out too soon and things crash around them. Other times people are silent on matters that require a person to speak up. Many people have been destroyed by both mistakes.

For example, if one is aware that there is bullying and abuse of any kind happening with friends or family, silence is NOT an option. The body of Christ has a moral responsibility to look out for each other. It's wrong to stay silent and allow others to be harmed because of fear and pride. While it's true not everyone will appreciate the truth being told, God and heaven will be there to cheer you on.

As for being silent, if someone reveals private information about a person that should have never been spoken out loud, be silent. Don't engage in gossip ever. NEVER reveal private information about another person. It's very disrespectful and leads to so many problems that aren't worth dealing with. Knowing when to stay silent and when to speak up will come with prayer, time, wisdom, and life experience.
