Summary: This is the 6th study in the study "The Hebrew Hymnal".

Series: The Hebrew Hymnal (Psalms) [#6]

HYMN #6: LORD, FORGIVE ME

Psalm 6

In the Book of Psalms, you will find seven “penitential Psalms” of David. Most likely, this Psalm of anguish was written after David committed adultery with Bathsheba and had Uriah killed.

The guilt from sin can be overwhelming. Although God does not want His children to be trapped by guilt, He does want us to realize the severity and consequences of sin; and repent. Conviction of sin in our life causes either resentment towards God or repentance.

This Psalm shows us what God does when we go to Him asking for forgiveness.

Psalm 6

God Gives Mercy

Mercy is not getting what you deserve. David was exhausted from grief, guilt, and worry; but even worse, he was afraid that God would not forgive him. David did not want God to give him what he deserved which was eternal death. God heard David’s cry and showed mercy upon him.

God has showed us mercy by not sending all of us to Hell. The wages of sin is eternal death and that is what we deserve; but God gives us a way to escape the torment of Hell.

God Gives Grace

Grace is getting something you do not deserve. David asked God for deliverance from his enemies. David asked God to save him from his enemies. God did deliver and save David from his enemies.

It is only through grace that we can be saved from our enemies which are sin, eternal death, and Satan. God offers us salvation from our enemies through His Son Jesus Christ.
