Genesis Chapter Six Series

Summary: These are thoughts on Genesis Chapter Six. In his work, "What does every Bible chapter say..." John Hunt gives an overview of each chapter of the Bible. It is my intention to do the same thing here.
GENESIS CHAPTER SIX OVERVIEW
Overall what is happening in this chapter is sin continues to increase but God has a plan to start over with the human race.
Thomas Coke (1801) – Genesis 6
The human race became generally corrupt. God determines to destroy them by a flood. Noah, a just man, is commanded to build an ark for the preservation of himself, his family, and all kinds of living creatures.
Matthew Henry (1714) – Genesis 6
The most remarkable thing we have upon record concerning the old world is the destruction of it by the universal deluge, the account of which commences in this chapter, wherein we have,
I. The abounding iniquity of that wicked world (Genesis 6:1-5; Genesis 6:11-12).
II. The righteous God's just resentment of that abounding iniquity, and his holy resolution to punish it (Genesis 6:6-7).
III. The special favor of God to his servant Noah.
1. In the character given of him (Genesis 6:8-10)
2. In the communication of God's purpose to him (Genesis 6:13; Genesis 6:17).
3. In the directions he gave him to make an ark for his own safety (Genesis 6:14-16).
4. In the employing of him for the preservation of the rest of the creatures (Genesis 6:18-21).
Lastly, Noah's obedience to the instructions given him (Genesis 6:22). And this concerning the old world is written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the new would have come.
DETAILED ANALYSIS OF GENESIS 6
(Genesis 6:1-7) The wickedness of mankind and judgement.
(Genesis 6:8) Noah finds grace.
(Genesis 6:9-10) The generations of Noah.
(Genesis 6:11-12) The wickedness of mankind.
(Genesis 6:13) Noah warned of the flood.
(Genesis 6:14-16) The directions for building the ark.
(Genesis 6:17-21) Warning and covenant.
(Genesis 6:22) Noah's faith and obedience.
KEY VERSE
Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”

God will not let sin go unpunished but will also show mercy to His elect.

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
