Summary: In this sermon, we'll explore God's blueprint for marriage ..

Marriage is a beautiful union between two people, but did you know that God's design is for it to be a spiritual and divine oneness first, and then physical? In this sermon, we'll explore God's blueprint for marriage and how He brings spouses together in a beautiful dance of spiritual and physical oneness.

Spiritual Oneness as the Foundation

In Genesis 2:24, we read, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." But what does it mean to become "one flesh"? It starts with spiritual oneness.

In John 17:22-23, Jesus prays, "The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one." Here, Jesus shows us that spiritual oneness is a reflection of the unity between Him and the Father.

Divine Oneness :God's Hand in Marriage

In Psalm 37:4-5, we read, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act." When we delight ourselves in the Lord and commit our ways to Him, He brings us together with someone who shares our spiritual values and desires.

In Proverbs 19:14, we read, "House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord." Here, we see that God is the one who brings us our spouse, and He does so with purpose and intentionality.

Physical Oneness as the Celebration

Once we have found spiritual and divine oneness, physical oneness becomes a beautiful celebration of our love and commitment to each other.

In 1 Corinthians 7:3-5, we read, "The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does." Here, we see that physical oneness is a mutual gift that we give to each other, symbolizing our love and commitment.

Marriage is a beautiful journey that starts with spiritual oneness, followed by divine oneness, and culminating in physical oneness. When we follow God's blueprint for marriage, we experience a deep and fulfilling union that reflects the unity between Jesus and the Father.

Prayer

Lord God, thank You for Your design for marriage. Help us to seek spiritual oneness first, and then divine oneness. Bring us together with someone who shares our values and desires, and may our physical oneness be a beautiful celebration of our love and commitment to each other. Amen.
