Summary: In many ways the Church in Thyatira closely parallels the Church that will go into the tribulation period. Listen to what the Spirit saith unto this Church
The Church of Jezebel
Rev. 2:18-29
The Lord I believe is saying to these Churches the most important things He would say to each Church around this world. The conclusion of each of these letter states “He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the Churches”.
Three questions I ask from the first three letters:
• Do you love the Lord? Ephesus
• Are you willing to suffer for His name sake? Smyrna
• Are you living a separated life? Pergamos
The letter to the Church in Thyatira closely parallels the Church that will go into the tribulation period. It like the other Churches is acknowledged for good that some have done.
See: Vs.19 Charity, Service, Faith, Patience and Works
“The last to be more than the first” Did you catch that? Works over Love!
1. The Seduced
See: Vs.20-23
“The Woman Jezebel”
This name is only connected to one in the Bible and perhaps used here to teach a very good point.
See: 1 Kings 16:30-33
Then: 1 Kings 21:25
Point: It was Jezebel which influenced Ahab to kill the prophets of God and installed the prophets of Baal.
Why is she mentioned in the Church age?
• Perhaps to speak out against those who violate the scripture concerning the Church and it’s Bishop.
See: 1 Tim. 2:12, 3:1-2
There are some things that people say like: Deborah was a Judge over Israel or that was for back then but times has changed.
Thoughts: Jacob had 13 children and one was a girl, but the 12 boys made up the tribes of Israel.
Jesus chose unto Himself 12 disciples why did He not choose a woman?
Point: Nowhere in the early Church you find a woman teaching men or placed in the authority over men.
I do not make this point to undermine the significance of women in ministry because most of my faithful workers are women who serve in places I believe the scripture permits.
• The mentioning of Jezebel I believe also refers to the one world Church movement
See: Rev. 2:20 She cause those to commit fornication and eat things sacrificed to idols
See: Rev. 17:1-4 The woman in purple
See: Rev. 2:21-23 The mentioning of judging her and her followers in the great tribulation
2. The Saints
Vs.24 As mentioned last week there is always a remnant of faithful believers
“I will put upon none other burden”
Mention: 1 Cor. 10:13 He will not tempted above what we can bear
Also: Matt. 11:30 My yoke is easy and my burden is light
3. The Supremacy
See: Vs.26 He that is faithful unto the end will be given some authority
See: Matt. 25:23 I will make thee ruler over many things
See: Rev. 20:6 We shall reign with Him
Vs.27 This speaks of the supremacy of Christ over the nations
Mention: Psalms 2:7-9,
Also: Daniel 2:44, 8:25 broken without hands
Vs.28 I will give him the morning star
Rev. 22:16 Jesus is referred to as the morning star. Some believe perhaps a ref. to the raptu
