The Applied Word of God

By: Pastor Donny Granberry

For the past several weeks we have taken an objective look at the word applied, and focused on the spiritual difference of knowing things –vs- applying them.

It is wonderful to know about God, yet it is enlightening to know God.

Apply – means to put to use, especially for some practical purpose, to bring into action, or to lay or spread on.

Today, our focus of thought will be on “The Applied Word of God.”

Knowing the word of God will not make you a threat to satan, but when you apply what you know in the word, it gives you not only knowledge, but authority.

The only way to have authority is to submit yourself to authority.

1 Peter 1:23-25

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Wednesday night we looked at different ways that people respond to the word of God.

The very word that gives us authority is also one of the most disregarded books most Christian’s have in their possession.

Many believers have never read the entire bible.

While no one has mastered the bible, many have done so little to understand it.

People will read the newspaper every day.

People will watch the news everyday.

How many of you believe everything you read in the paper and hear on the news?

Then why will we spend more time reading and listening to what we do not believe than we do believe?

It is called priority.

Let’s look at four things about the word of God found in our reading today.

1. The Bible is God’s Incontestable Word.

No one will ever be able to successfully come up against the word of God, there is no contest there.

The Bible is exactally what it says that it is – The Word of God.

v. 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Romans 10:17 KJV

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1 Thessalonians 2:13

when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

The Word of God – Why is that statement so important?

• In the 1st five books of the bible it is called the word of God, or something similar over 500 times.

• In the books of the prophets it is called the word of God over 1,000 times.

• In the O.T. it is called the word of God over 4,000 times.

• In the N.T. it is called the word of God 44 times.

What does this mean?

It means when the bible speaks, God speaks. (Repeat)

Therefore, if it is, and it is, the word of God, then it is perfect.

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

You see, God cannot inspire error.

Proverbs 30:6

Every word of God is pure.

Matthew 4:4

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

The bible was given by God.

God gave the same title to Jesus as He gave to the bible.

Bible – The Word of God, Rev. 19:13 – The Son – His name shall be called “The word of God.”

Jesus and the bible are not identical, but they are inseparable.

You cannot separate the word of the Lord from the Lord of the word.

There are similarities between Jesus and the Word of God.

Word of God Jesus

Inspired from God God sent forth his Son

1 Peter 1:25 Revelation 1:18

The word of God will last forever Jesus is alive forevermore

Psalm119:105 John 8:12

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet The light of the world.

John 17:17 John14:6
